God spoke to a few women to gather and knit prayer shawls for the Grace Cancer Care Ministry in the fall of 2012. A group of 3 quickly grew into a group of 27 folks knitting, praising God, praying and sharing God’s love with each other while being productive with our hands. A beautiful quilt rack was made and presented to the church to display the prayer shawls until needed.
Stretching on to Millersville University Campus hot soup, free knitting lessons and supplies were offered to college students in November 2013. Several students have joined the group for a bi-monthly knitting workshop.
Inspiration came to one of our knitters when she attended her nephew’s wedding at First United Methodist Church in Phoenixville, Pa. In the narthex of their church is a quilt rack inviting the church community to share a shawl with someone needing to feel God’s love. This idea of a free will gift of love and compassion was shared with the KFC knitters. Excitement grew as the shawl inventory grew.
Today we have 3 quilt racks filled with shawls inviting others to reach out and share God’s love to someone in need.
