Relay for Life - Join our Team!
For the past two years I have had the honor of being part of a team for Relay for Life. RFL is an all night celebration / fundraiser / block party type event to honor survivors and remember those who lost their battle with cancer. Organized by the American Cancer Society millions of dollars are raised through a number of similar events across the country. This year we are entering a team in our own right, and Heather Fortier will be our team captain. She is in her 9th year as a cancer survivor and been involved in this event for 7 years.
The event will be held at Mennen Arena on the evening of Friday, June 4th, 2010 going through the night until the early hours of Saturday morning. The objective is to have someone in our team walking at all times, and throughout the evening there are a number of other activities going on.
You can be involved in a number of ways. You can join our team and get friends and colleagues to support you financially. You can walk for a few hours, or several. Alternative you could help provide food for the team, come along and cheer us on. Or purchase a luminaria (paper bag with a candle inside) in honor of or in memory of someone. It would just be great to have as many of us as possible, playing our part in this great event.
